Controller (Chico, CA)

A processor of sun dried tomatoes, built on a foundation of family values, quality, and integrity, is seeking a Controller to oversee the finance operations for their organization.  The Controller supervises a staff of five and reports to the President.  

Responsibilities include:

  1. Accurate and timely month, quarter, and year-end close.  Reporting of monthly financials.
  2. Preparation of financial statements, the annual budget, and forecasting.
  3. Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of A/P, A/R, cash disbursements, customer credits and collections, perpetual inventory integrity, general and entity accounting, cost accounting, and operations.
  4. Work with other advisors to ensure clean and timely year-end financials and other business reporting.
  5. Monitor and manage daily cash flows, including borrowings and repayments on credit facilities.
  6. Supervise accounting staff and accomplish objectives through recruitment, training, development, and performance management.
  7. Collaborate with sales, marketing, and production to achieve projected sales growth while creating operational efficiencies.
  8. Implement and maintain adequate and effective systems, controls, documentation, policies, and procedures, while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  9. Responsible for monitoring and making recommendations on all banking, legal, and supply contracts as well as facilitating all future contracts and/or agreements including private label agreements.
  10. Acts as the systems coordinator, helping to maintain computer equipment and user access to the network as well as evaluating current software configuration and implementing approved software and/or hardware changes and upgrades.
  11. Monitor and review company’s insurance coverage, coordinate broker presentations, and make recommendations to owners (includes Worker’s Comp, Health, Liability, Building, and other).

Requirements include:

  1. Five plus years’ relevant experience; Controller experience preferred.
  2. Supervision experience required.
  3. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business with an accounting concentration required.
  4. Food/ag and/or manufacturing experience preferred.
  5. Diligent and detail oriented with a focus on process control.
  6. Ability to work with a team to problem solve and create culture of continuous improvement.
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to handle complex and confidential communications.
