Finance Analyst (Woodland, CA)

Alforex Seeds is searching for a Finance Analyst to join their team.  Alforex Seeds is one of the agricultural industry's leading alfalfa and forage producers for the diary and beef industry.  Alforex Seeds' mission is to develop and market innovative proprietary alfalfa technology that increases forage productivity of forage producers to meet the needs of the growing world population.  Headquartered in Woodland, CA, Alforex has been at the forefront of a number of important innovations in the alfalfa and forage industry.  An affiliate of Dow AgroSciences, Alforex is the result of a merger between Dairyland Seed and Cal/West Seeds.  By combining the forage research and development capabilities of both companies with longstanding reputations, Alforex is able to leverage more than 100 years of industry knowledge in its mission to promote alfalfa and forage excellence.  The Finance Analyst position will provide business and financial support to the management team and will be responsible for preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial reports and analyses; it will also serve as liaison to assist the management team with the company's financial needs. 

Responsibilities include:

  1. Act as liaison with parent company and provide financial support to the management team.
  2. Approve invoices, wire transfers, and sign AP checks.
  3. Be the financial liaison as well as review and approve cash expenditures for the foreign subsidiary.
  4. Serve as the account administrator for the bank accounts and other financial services.
  5. Maintain the corporate credit card program, coordinating with the corporate treasury.
  6. Point of contact for accounts receivable insurance (AIG).
  7. Assist in preparation and updating of budgets and forecasts.
  8. Report on actual financial results against targets, provide analysis of variances, and assist in guidance on future trends.
  9. Work with operational management group and parent companies to answer questions and provide requested information.
  10. Provide support to accounting department.
  11. Assist with year-end audit.
  12. Provide analysis of company profitability and recommendations on product pricing.
  13. Assist in automation of repetitive data aggregation/manipulation tasks to enable greater focus on value add analysis.
  14. Assist in ongoing improvement of financial planning.
  15. Assist in enabling strong cross-functional communications and enhanced efficiencies by leading teams through process improvement efforts.

Requirements include:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
  2. Five years of finance/accounting experience in an analytical role.
  3. Experience in agriculture or manufacturing based company preferred.
  4. Ability to meet tight and changing deadlines.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to effectively influence people at all levels of the organization.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Advanced Excel a must).
  7. Demonstrated high work standards – holds self to very high standard of quality and delivery.
  8. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
