Springboard Biodiesel

$758,200 Alternative and Renewable Fuels Grant

THE CLIENT:
Springboard Biodiesel, located in Chico, California, is an alternative energy company providing biodiesel solutions and clean-tech equipment manufacturing. In operation since 2005, Springboard is leading the way in developing a vibrant, small-scale biodiesel production industry.

ALTERNATIVE AND RENEWABLE FUELS GRANT:

The California Energy Commission opened up an alternative energy grant program, the “Alternative and Renewable Fuels and Vehicle Technology Program.” Springboard Biodiesel saw an opportunity for funding to help create a pilot small-scale production and fueling facility.

The project will allow Springboard to create a pilot facility where they will build, install, and operate a 1,000-gallon per day closed loop biodiesel system that will use an alternative energy source (used cooking oil and other waste fats) and convert it into biodiesel fuel.

The prospect of the project was exciting to California's North State region where accessibility to alternative energy sources and biodiesel is limited along major transportation routes and in rural areas. A pilot facility would open doors for future installations that would drive job growth and biodiesel use, and lower harmful emissions.

RENEWABLE ENERGY GRANT AWARD:
Morrison & Company assisted Springboard in preparing an application for the alternative energy grant program; the application received the highest score of all applications for that program and was successfully awarded a grant in excess of $750,000.
