Taylor Brothers Farms

Taylor Brothers Farms: Global Game Changer and International Innovator

THE CLIENT:
Taylor Brothers Farms (TBF) is the world’s largest producer and processor of organic prunes and a leading processor and global distributor of prime quality conventional prunes and prune products.  Based in northern California, Taylor Brothers Farms is run by brothers Richard and John Taylor.  Richard and John are the third generation of their family to farm California’s rich soils.  The Taylor family has farmed consistently for nearly a century.

Richard and John have expanded the family farming operation into a global prune business, making an impact on international prune markets. With international sales and processing facilities in South Korea and Poland, TBF has introduced consumers all over the world to California-grown prunes and prune products.

THE CHALLENGE:
With the tremendous growth and success of Taylor Brothers Farms, monitoring the global organization and its operations while running the day-to-day operations became challenging and complex.  The company needed help to assess and oversee California, Korean, and Polish operations along with other Taylor Brothers ventures in order to efficiently manage, analyze, and plan for this growing and increasingly complex company.

THE PROCESS:
Our role with Taylor Brothers Farms has taken many forms.  We currently provide financial and business segment analysis on an ongoing basis.  We gather financial reporting from all entities on a monthly basis, interview internal staff and business partners, complete ad-hoc analysis, and present findings, options, and recommendations to the Taylor brothers.  We temporarily filled the Controller job when the position experienced turn-over, while simultaneously recruiting and screening candidates to fill the position permanently.

THE RESULTS:
Taylor Brothers Farms has been a longtime client of Morrison & Company. Our team has had the opportunity to assist Taylor Brothers with everything from interim/outsource services to executive recruiting and grant preparation. The current in-house accounting and finance function has never been stronger, and TBF’s broader global business is making adjustments to take advantage where opportunities are greatest.  We look forward to continuing our relationship with this dynamic company.
