Funds Available for CA Based Beverage Recycling Programs
CalRecycle has released their Fiscal Year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 Beverage Container Recycling Grant Program with funding levels ranging from $75,000 to $250,000 per application. A total of $1.5mm is available for FY 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. Applications are due December 1st, 2020.
What is the purpose of CalRecycle’s Beverage Container Recycling Grant Program?
The purpose of this grant program is to promote increased recycling of beverage containers throughout California and reduce beverage container litter in the waste stream. CalRecycle is seeking projects that implement new or enhance existing programs to provide convenient beverage container recycling opportunities in various locations statewide.
Who is eligible to apply?
Eligible applicants for this program include: California cities, counties, and other local governments; Special Districts (e.g., recreational park districts); Public Colleges and universities and public K-12 school districts; Non-profit organizations (excluding private schools K-12) with the federal government under 501(c)3, (c)6, or (c)10; Qualifying Indian Tribes; Joint Powers Authorities (JPA) as an eligible entity (where all of the participating entities are otherwise eligible).
What projects are eligible?
Eligible projects for this program include:
- Multi-family residential dwellings (five units or more).
- Public or Non-profit colleges or universities and public K-12 schools.
- Curbside Residential Program locations (excluding single stream).
- Community events including, but not limited to, those sponsored by local jurisdictions.
- Parks/recreational areas
- Purchase of water refill stations, including the installation, education & outreach, or replacement of infrastructure, plumbing, maintenance, additional attachments or modifications.
What are other project requirements?
Funding must have a direct connection to the California Redemption Value (CRV) of beverage containers and the overall program. If non-CRV items are included in the grant, they are subject to proportional cost.
What are the funding levels for this program?
The proposed maximum award for an individual project is $250,000. The proposed minimum award amount is $75,000.
When are applications due?
Applications are due December 1st, 2020 with awards likely announced May 2021 for FY 2020-2021 and July 2021 for FY 2021-2022.
