What’s the Plan
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
I am a planner. I want to have a plan, know the plan, and follow the plan. But if I had always followed MY plan, life would look very different for me. Everyone that knows me, knows I am an accounting nerd. It is my passion, and I get excited about it. (Don’t judge!) What many people don’t know, is that accounting was NOT my plan. If you had told me at 18 I would one day be a CPA, I would have told you you were crazy. But here we are, and I love it!
If life, or business, could be a road map that we simply followed, it would be easy. But most of the time it just isn’t. The University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth recommends these 7 steps to effective decision making:
- Identify the decision
- Gather information
- Identify alternatives
- Weigh the evidence
- Choose among alternatives
- Take action
- Review your decision
When my original plan took a sharp turn and landed me at Southern Oregon University (SOU), one of the accounting professors (we will call him Big D) became the mentor that helped guide me to and through the accounting program, as well as future job and career changes which eventually led me to find my home at Morrison. Following these steps seems simple enough, but sometimes you need a trusted advisor to help you navigate the decision-making process and that is exactly what Big D was for me.
At Morrison, we aim to be your trusted advisors. We are here when you need help to navigate the tough decisions, or to just provide the extra support you need to make your business successful.
