Challenges

With the tremendous growth and success of Taylor Brothers Farms, the company had grown from its roots as a farming operation (going back to 1916) to an international vertically integrated organization comprised of agricultural production, processing, marketing, and distribution activities, handling both its own commodities and those acquired from other quality California growers. Managing and monitoring the global organization while running day-to-day U.S. operations became increasingly challenging and complex, and the company needed help in assessing and overseeing its growing U.S., European, and Asian operations.

Solutions

Morrison’s role with Taylor Brothers has taken many forms since 2008, including time spent at their facilities in Poland and Korea to help assess those operations. Today Morrison provides financial and business segment analysis on an ongoing basis, including assessing financial reporting from all entities on a monthly basis; interface with lenders and key third parties, internal stakeholders, and business partners; ad-hoc analyses, and; presenting findings, options, and recommendations to ownership. In the past, Morrison assumed the controller role during a vacancy, recruited and onboarded a replacement controller, and has written USDA grants for the company.

Successes

The current in-house accounting and finance function has never been stronger, and TBF is now better able to make adjustments to their global business to take advantage of the greatest opportunities. Morrison looks forward to continuing the relationship with this dynamic company.
